Beyond “Gangnam Style”: What is PSY Up To Today?
It has been over a decade since Park Jae-sang—better known to the world as PSY—forced us all to learn the horse-riding dance. When “Gangnam Style” dropped in 2012, it became a historic cultural phenomenon, shattering internet records and introducing millions globally to the energy of Korean pop music.
Given how massive that single was, it is easy to wonder: Does PSY still make music, or was he a one-hit wonder on a global scale?
The short answer is a resounding yes. PSY never stopped making music—he just evolved into a powerhouse mentor, label executive, and live-performance king.
The Evolution of PSY’s Music
While “Gangnam Style” put him on the international map, PSY was already a well-established, rule-breaking hip-hop artist and producer in South Korea long before 2012. He continued releasing music steadily through the 2010s, including albums like Chiljip PSY-Da (2015) and 4X2=8 (2017).
Most notably, PSY made a major music comeback with his full-length studio album, PSY 9th, which featured the smash hit lead single “That That” produced by and featuring Suga of BTS. The track proved that PSY still knows how to craft an infectious, chart-topping anthem, blending his signature high-energy comedic flair with modern K-pop production.
