The Campervan That Thinks It’s a Motorhome: Inside the Rapido V62

When it comes to recreational vehicles, buyers are usually forced to make a compromise. Do you go for the sleek, agile, go-anywhere convenience of a panel-van conversion, or do you opt for the sprawling living space and creature comforts of a coachbuilt motorhome?

Enter the Rapido V62.

Built on the extra-long Fiat Ducato platform, this high-top campervan has taken the European RV market by storm by effectively bridging the gap between two worlds. Measuring 6.36 meters in length, the V62 manages to pack the soul, space, and storage of a much larger motorhome into a nimble, road-tripping package.

Exterior Presence and First Impressions

From the outside, the Rapido V62 maintains a low-profile stealthiness. To the casual observer on a campsite, it looks like a standard, well-kept panel van. There are no bulky overhangs or awkward body extensions to complicate tight parking spaces or narrow European lanes.

However, the moment you slide open the side door—complete with an electric step and mesh bug screen—the illusion of a standard campervan completely shatters.

Step inside, and you are greeted by Rapido’s signature French flair: striking Nacarat furniture styling paired with light, modern upholstery options that instantly flood the interior with a bright, high-end ambiance.

A Clever, Motorhome-Inspired Living Space

The interior layout is where the V62 truly sets itself apart from traditional van conversions.

  • The Front Lounge: Built around a half-dinette bench and swivel cab seats, the lounge feels exceptionally open. Rapido cleverly includes an extra backless seat right by the doorway, completing a wrap-around seating dynamic usually reserved for full-sized motorhomes.
  • The Skyview Touch: Thanks to an overcab Skyview panoramic window (replacing the standard Ducato shelf) and an additional sunroof, the front living space feels airy, bright, and deeply connected to the outdoors.
  • Flexibility: The seating area easily converts into an extra single bed, turning the V62 into a legitimate three-berth vehicle accompanied by four belted travel seats.

Gourmet Galore: Kitchen and Storage Innovations

In many compact campervans, the kitchen feels like an afterthought. Not so in the V62.

Instead of a cramped linear block, the kitchen area is intelligently organized. Opposite the sliding door sits the cooking station, equipped with a two-burner gas stove, a stainless-steel sink, and a handy slot-in worktop extension.

Rather than cramming the washroom directly across from the stove, Rapido places a massive 146-litre Dometic compressor fridge and tall cabinetry there instead. This design choice opens up central floor space, allowing two people to move about the cabin without stepping on each other’s toes.

Storage is another area where the V62 punches well above its weight class:

  • The Wardrobe: A surprisingly large, mirrored wardrobe sits near the kitchen, offering genuine hanging space and shelving typically only found in coachbuilts.
  • Soft-Close Drawers: Five central-locking drawers keep your kitchen gear secure while on the move (complete with a warning alert if you forget to lock them before driving off).

Sleeping Quarters and Practicality

At the rear, the V62 features a comfortable French bed configuration outfitted with a high-resilience foam mattress designed for restful nights after a long day of exploring. The adjacent corner washroom packs in a combined shower and toilet facility, maximizing utility without sacrificing living area square footage.

Under the hood, the Fiat Ducato base provides a car-like driving experience enhanced by modern driver-assist suites, a reversing camera, and a smooth multimedia dashboard system.

The Verdict

The Rapido V62 proves that you don’t need a massive chassis to travel in absolute comfort. By throwing out the rulebook on traditional van layouts and injecting clever motorhome DNA into a 6.36-meter frame, Rapido has created a vehicle that is equally happy navigating tight medieval village streets as it is hosting a cozy dinner inside.

For couples or small families wanting luxury finishings, abundant storage, and effortless driveability, the V62 stands tall as a masterclass in modern campervan engineering.
